A small idea can usher in a revolution. At a
small roadside coffee shop, a group of
journalist got together to translate a small
idea into a big time initiative. An
initiative for the members of the fourth
estate and provide them a forum for
interaction. Thus was born the Gujarat Media
club.
September 1, 2006
A significant day for the entire team at the
GMC. A license from the Ministry of Company
Affairs under section 25 of the Indian
Companies Act, 1956. This paved the way for
the club to obtain a certificate of
incorporation.
September 22, 2006
The big day. Finally the GMC formed as a
company. The Registrar of Companies issuing
a certificate of incorporation.
September 23, 2006
Monumental day for the club. As the
executive committee members sat down for a
brain storming session to thrash out the bye
laws for the club. Held under the
chairmanship of its first chairman, R K
Misra, the bye laws for the club were
finally formed.
March 18, 2007
First major event organised by the club.
Indian Oil GMC cricket trophy organized at
the Sardar patel Stadium had journos rough
it out on the cricket field. With teams
drawn from print, electronic media and media
agencies, the event was huge draw, with
hundreds of cricket buffs turning up at the
venue to cheer on the teams. Icing on the
cake, Mrs India, Jimmy Nanda who was the
chief guest at the event.
May 15, 2007
An important milestone for the club. In a
years time, got its 100th member. Eminent
journalist Thakorebhai Patel joined the
club. The count is on.
July 20, 2007
Getting the journalists to take some time
off for their families is something of an
improbability. But the GMC did just that.
Not only organized annual dinner but made it
an occasion for the families to interact.
Not to mention the presence of eminent
personalities including then IIM-A Director,
Bakul Dholakia and then Ahmedabad Police
Commissioner J Mahapatra.

For more than a year, the GMC was
functioning almost without a roof. But on
this day our centre got an address operating
out of a commercial centre in Vastrapur
area. The centre also got computers
terminals with internet facility courtesy
the Essar group. |
